IYDC 2023 RULES & REGULATIONS – ONLINE COMPETITION

Objective

To provide a platform for young aspiring dancers from around the world to showcase their talent through friendly competition.

Provide opportunities for cultural exchange, encouraging resilience and confidence through the love of dance.

Uniting the World through Dance.

Enrolment

Acceptance of entry is on a first-come-first-serve basis until quota is full.

Competition Categories

The IYDC Online Competition is open to competitors from age 6 to 24 years (age cut off is 1st July 2023 for solos & 1st Jan 2023 for Duo/Trio & Groups). Competitors will compete in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary/Lyrical and Any Other Style genres. The categories of the competition are as follows:

** Lyrical items can be entered under the Contemporary genre.

Number of Participants for each Category

Solo: 1 Participant per item

Duo/Trio: 2 to 3 Participants per item

Small Group: 4 to 12 Participants per item

Large Group: 13 to 24 Participants per item

Student’s Choreography: 1 to 3 choreographers, 1 to 3 dancers per item

Adjudicators and Marking Criteria

A panel of adjudicators will be appointed by IYDC. The Marking Criteria will be based on the Competitor’s Dance Techniques as well as Artistry.

The various aspects of Dance Techniques include Posture, Control & Coordination of Movements, Aesthetic Lines, Use of Space and/or Formations and the Versatility of Movement Qualities.

Artistry will include Musicality and the Effectiveness of the Performance in relation to the Choreography.

* For Ballet items, pointe work is allowed only from age 11 and above.

Student’s Choreography Entry Requirements & Marking Criteria

The Student’s Choreography Section is open to students 12 to 19 years of age.

Students may enter for this section with their own original choreography. This can be entered as an Individual Choreographer or a Team of up to three (3) Choreographers. The Student Choreographer(s) may enter a choreography of between 2 to 4 mins in length, with one (1) to three (3) dancers. Students will also be required to include a short synopsis on the theme of the choreographed dance. This can be written in English or Chinese.

The choreography will be marked on Arrangement of steps, Use of space, Musical approach, Theme development and Overall performance.

Prizes and Awards

Videos submitted will be assessed and judged by the adjudicators. Videos will be broadcasted in sessions based on age categories and genres. Broadcast date and time for each session will be announced after the deadline for submission of videos.

The Prize Awards will be announced at the end of each session. All competitors will also be notified of their results via email. Certificates and prizes will be mailed out to schools / independent competitors after the competition.

Entry Fees and Surcharges

Payment should be paid online via credit card. Entry Fees and Surcharges are non-refundable and non-transferable under any circumstances other than event cancellation by the organiser.

Duo/Trio: SGD 160
Small Group: SGD 220
Large Group: SGD 300

Student’s Choreography: SGD 150

Batch Entry Discounts:

5 to 9 Entries: 5% discount
10 to 49 Entries: 10% discount
50 + Entries: 15% discount

Application Procedure

Enrol online via www.iydc.co between 1st September 2023 to 30 September 2023. Entries after 30th September 2023 will be subjected to availability and late charges.

  1. Fill up the online entry form (available from 1 September 2023).
  2. Pay the entry fee(s) via credit card on website.
  3. Keep a backup copy of the completed form and proof of payment.
  4. Successful enrolments will be confirmed by email. A reference number will be provided for each enrolment.

Schools with larger number of entries may download or request for a soft copy of the batch entry form to be submitted directly to us via email. Email the batch entry form to registration@iydc.co .

Late Entries

  1. Late entries after 30th September 2023 will be accepted if spaces are still available. A surcharge of SGD 30 will be applied for each late entry.
  2. Any change of enrolment details can be made on or before 15th October 2023 with a surcharge of SGD 30 per request. Late requests made after the 15th October 2023 will not be accepted.

Name

The name printed on the Certificate will be based on the name provided in the entry form. A surcharge of SGD 30 will be payable if name is to be amended.

For Solo, Duo and Trio, competitors should enrol in their own names.

For Group, competitors should enrol in the name of an organisation / school, with each participant’s name clearly stated in the entry form. Each participant of a group is not allowed to represent more than one organisation / school.

Age

Competitors must enroll in the appropriate age group, with the age criteria as follows:

Solo:
Age based on competitor’s age by 1st July 2023.

Duo, Trio and Group Items:
If dancers are of different ages, the group will be competing in the age group according to the age of the oldest dancer by 1st Jan 2023.

Music, lyrics, costumes and choreography content must be age and event appropriate. Inappropriate items may be disqualified at the discretion of the adjudicator panel.

Time limits

Time limits set for each Category are as follows:

Solo: 2.5 minutes

Duo/Trio: 3 minutes

Small Group: 4 minutes

Large Group: 5 minutes

Student’s Choreography: 2 to 4 minutes

Marks will be deducted from the score for duration exceeding the limit. This is at the discretion of the adjudication panel.

Video

  1. The video(s) being entered for the competition must be filmed on or after 1st January 2023.
  2. The duration of the dance piece should not exceed the maximum length for the category. The commencement of the dance movement will be timed regardless when the music starts.
  3. Video’s background should ideally be plain. Avoid name of schools or logos in the background. Dancer(s)’ full body should be shown throughout the length of the video. Marks will be deducted if parts of body have been blocked due to zoom effects or dancer(s) danced out of frame.
  4. Videos should be submitted in .mp4 or .mov format by uploading to a cloud drive. Link to upload the videos will be emailed to participants after the closing date. All videos must be submitted via the upload link by the 30th October 2023. Late submissions will not be accepted.
  5. Information on submission of video will be communicated after the closing date.
  6. Participants are allowed multiple entries for each level / genre, with a cap of 3 entries per participant per genre.

Identity Check

The organiser will check the identity document of each contestant during the registration process. The identity document must be an official document bearing the name, photo and date of birth of the contestant. Failure to prove the identity may lead to disqualification.

Photographs and Video Recording

  1. IYDC owns the rights to publish and broadcast videos / photos submitted by the competitors for the purpose of the competition event.
  2. Recording of the broadcasted event is strictly prohibited.
  3. Viewing of competition videos will be made available on IYDC’s YouTube page after adjudicating and results announcement.

Others

  1. Contestants are responsible for their own training and submission of entries.
  2. The IYDC reserves the right to amend the Rules and Regulations.
  3. The IYDC reserves the right to amend the schedule of the competition or cancel any category in case of insufficient entries.
